FARMINGTON — A Bloomfield man is accused of stabbing three men with scissors near the Farmington Indian Center Wednesday afternoon.

Calvin Begay, 42, is accused of three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, disorderly conduct and criminal trespass, according to Farmington Police Department spokesperson Georgette Allen.

Begay allegedly stabbed three men with scissors in the area of the Indian Center Park near the State Building at 101 W. Animas St., according to the probable cause statement.

He made his first appearance in Farmington Magistrate Court this morning and did not have legal representation.

Farmington police officers were dispatched around 3:39 p.m. Wednesday to the area of the State Building on a report of a man having been stabbed, according to court documents. The officers arriving on the scene spotted two men holding up another man.

One of the men pointed officers toward Begay, who was walking through Indian Center Park. Begay initially didn't respond to commands from the officers but later placed his hands on top of his head and was taken into custody.

The three alleged victims were interviewed by police near the scene with one of them stating it was Begay who stabbed him, according to court documents.

One alleged victim had a puncture wound on the bottom of his neck, and the other two alleged victims had lacerations on the side of their neck.

The alleged victims, ages 32, 37, and 52, were transported to the San Juan Regional Medical Center for treatment. Two of the alleged victims were transported by ambulance while the third one was transported by an officer.

All the alleged victims were treated for nonlife-threatening injuries and were released, according to Allen.

When speaking to officers, Begay allegedly avoided answering questions about the  incident.

An officer found small, blue "elementary school"-type scissors in Begay's right, front pocket, according to court documents. A dried, red substance was found on the blades of the scissors.

Begay was being held today on a no-bond hold at the San Juan County Adult Detention Center. His preliminary hearing is set for Tuesday afternoon in Farmington Magistrate Court.
