FARMINGTON — A suspect in a fatal stabbing this morning in Farmington has been taken into custody following a standoff at a local motel.
Farmington Police Department officers arrested Ronnie Garcia, 40, of Farmington, this afternoon on one count of murder in the second degree and tampering with evidence, according to a Farmington police press release.
Officers were dispatched around 1:25 a.m. to 3001 Bloomfield Highway on reports of a male who was stabbed in the chest.
Dion Debarry, 24, of Farmington was transported to San Juan Regional Medical Center, where he died due to his injuries.
Investigating officers learned Garcia had fled the area toward the Rimrock Lodge, the press release states.
Police established a perimeter, then SWAT and negotiators were summoned after multiple hours of surveillance and investigation.
