Man accused of soliciting sex, photos from teenage girl
Suspect allegedly sent lewd photos of himself to the victim
FARMINGTON — A Bloomfield male is accused of soliciting sex and sending lewd photos of himself to a juvenile female and requesting sexually explicit photographs from the victim.
Mark Jaramillo, 43, is accused of 11 charges including two counts of solicitation to commit sexual exploitation of a child by manufacturing and three counts of criminal sexual communication with a child, according to court records.
Jaramillo allegedly solicited sex and requested sexually-explicit photos from a 14-year-old girl, according to the arrest warrant affidavit.
He is also accused of sending the victim photographs of his genitalia, according to a San Juan County Sheriff's Office Facebook post.
Steve Murphy, Jaramillo's attorney, said he just got the case and has not had a chance to review the forensic analysis of the victim's phone and photos.
San Juan County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched on the night of Sept. 7 to a residence on County Road 5457 on reports of a middle-aged man sending nude photos via text message to a 14-year-old girl, according to court documents.
The mother of the victim had learned a male later identified as Jaramillo had been dropping off lunches for the victim at school, and he had identified himself as a relative to school staff.
The victim told her mother she has been receiving lewd photos and videos from Jaramillo.
She also told her mother Jaramillo had purchased presents for her, including a laptop computer.
The victim told the deputies Jaramillo talked to her like he really cared about her, and that made her feel special.
Her phone was surrendered to the deputies and a detective extracted data from it.
Two messages were found wherein Jaramillo allegedly requested the victim send him sexually-explicit photos of herself. There were also two messages from Jaramillo allegedly soliciting the victim for sex.
Jaramillo allegedly sent pictures or videos of his genitalia on three separate dates, according to court documents.
During an interview conducted by detectives, Jaramillo admitted to sending the photographs to the victim and admitted he knew she was underage, according to a San Juan County Sheriff's Office Facebook post.
The San Juan County District Attorney's Office filed a motion to hold Jaramillo without bond pending trial.
District Judge John Dean Jr. ruled in favor of the motion during a Tuesday morning hearing in Aztec District Court. Murphy said he plans to appeal the decision for his client.
Jaramillo's preliminary hearing is set for this morning in Aztec Magistrate Court.
