Police warn businesses about counterfeit cash
FARMINGTON – Farmington Police today told businesses to look out for counterfeit cash following reports that some phony bills are circulating.
“While businesses tend to be mindful of large bills, counterfeiters have now started manufacturing smaller denominations knowing they are easier to pass,” police said in a press release. “Businesses should take precautions to help reduce their chances of falling victim to this crime.”
Police urge merchants to use resources provided by the United States Federal Reserve to help check questionable bills.
“They emphasize that unique security and design features should be used rather than detection pens which aren’t always accurate and can give false results,” police said. “Specifications for each of the seven denominations can be found online at www.uscurrency.gov/denominations.”
Police ask anyone who might have accepted fake money to call 334-6622 and ask to speak to an officer.
