FARMINGTON — Two women were shot early today and one died from her injuries at the San Juan Regional Medical Center, the Farmington Police Department reported.

Francine Delgado, 24, of Farmington, died after being shot in the lower back, police said in a press release. She had been dropped off at the hospital’s emergency room shortly after 1 a.m. today.

“Around 1:46 a.m. a second woman, identified as 28-year-old Rebecca Jacquez of Farmington, was dropped off at the emergency room with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to her buttock,” police spokesperson Georgette Allen said in the press release.  “She was treated and discharged from the hospital.”

Allen said officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of South Bowen Avenue after reports that shots had been fired at about 12:58 a.m. today. Delgado arrived at the emergency room at 1:01 a.m., and hospital security notified police.

Police would not comment on whether they have a suspect, or provide a narrative of what led up to the shootings.

Allen said police will release more details as they become available.

Detectives "do not have additional information to release at this time," Allen said this afternoon. "They are working diligently on the investigation and will provide an update when they have more details to release."

Police ask anyone with information to call the detective division at 599-1005.
