Law enforcement investigating shooting death of donkey
Incident took place April 17 and claimed life of family pet
FARMINGTON — Area law enforcement officials are investigating the death of a donkey who died from injuries after being shot last month.
The San Juan County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident in which a donkey was shot around 9:30 p.m. on April 17 in a horse pasture east of the intersection of County Road 350 and County Road 3000, according to a San Juan County Sheriff's Office Facebook post.
A vehicle had stopped on the shoulder of County Road 3000 near the residence of the donkey's owner, and someone in the vehicle fired two shots at the animal. The donkey named Ralph later died from its injuries and was a family pet.
The owners did not get a vehicle description, as they only heard the vehicle's engine after the shots were fired and the vehicle left the scene, according to Det. Michael Farni.
