FARMINGTON — The San Juan County Sheriff's Office is seeking assistance in locating an inmate who escaped from a work detail at McGee Park.

Kjay King, who was born in 1993, escaped from inmate detail around 11:20 a.m., according to Sheriff's Office spokesperson Jayme Harcrow.

The Sheriff's Office was notified by an employee at the San Juan County Adult Detention Center about the escape around 11:50 a.m. King had escaped about 30 minutes earlier, Harcrow said.

King was still not in custody as of this evening, Harcrow said. A warrant was being drafted to charge King with a fourth-degree felony count of escape from jail.

King was set to be released on May 6, according to Harcrow.

Anyone with information on King's location, or who observes him, is encouraged to call non-emergency dispatch at 505-334-6622.

The Sheriff's Office urges anyone who knows King and is contacted by him to encourage him to turn himself in.
