FARMINGTON — A Sanostee man has pleaded guilty in federal court today to an involuntary manslaughter charge after killing a woman by running over her with a vehicle.

Alrenzon Yazzie, 20, was arrested on Sept. 5 on a criminal complaint charging him with killing the woman on Sept. 3 on the Navajo Nation, according to a U.S. Department of Justice press release.

The victim was flown from Sanostee to the San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington for treatment but died from the injuries she sustained, the criminal complaint states.

The Justice Department release states Yazzie was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

Yazzie acknowledged during the court proceeding in Albuquerque the alcohol rendered him incapable of exercising clear judgment and steady operation of the vehicle, the release states.

He could face a maximum sentence of eight years in federal prison.

A sentencing hearing has not been scheduled.
