Bloomfield man sentenced in manslaughter conviction

FARMINGTON — A Bloomfield man was sentenced to two years and six months in prison after he pleaded guilty to killing a man while driving recklessly on the Navajo reservation.

Thomas J. Yazzie Jr., 52, was sentenced on an involuntary manslaughter charge in Albuquerque federal court today, according to a U.S. Department of Justice press release.

Yazzie pleaded guilty to an indictment during a March 30 hearing and admitted to killing the passenger in his vehicle on May 10, 2016, by driving recklessly under the influence of alcohol, the press release states.

Yazzie faced a maximum penalty of eight years in federal prison. After completing his prison sentence, he will have two years of supervised release.
