Airplane crashes at airport after failed take off
FARMINGTON — A small airplane crashed and skidded on the runway this morning after a failed takeoff at the Four Corners Regional Airport in Farmington.
The single-engine aircraft was taking off on runway 7 around 7 a.m. when it came back down onto the runway and skidded for an unknown distance, according to Airport Manager Mike Lewis.
There were no injuries to the two occupants. Damage appeared to be limited to paint being scrapped off the bottom of the aircraft, Lewis said.
"(It's) amazing how little damage he did to the airplane," Lewis said.
The aircraft was a private plane that was heading to Houston, Texas. The crash occurred just after the pilot lifted the landing gear, according to Lewis.
Lewis believes the aircraft wasn't creating enough power and fell back onto the runway.
Farmington firefighters were dispatched to the scene. The aircraft was removed from the runway around 9:50 a.m. and did not disrupt any scheduled flights.
