Area firefighters tackle brush fire in Bloomfield

Blaze torches 3 acres, destroys 2 outbuildings and 3 vehicles

FARMINGTON — A brush fire in Bloomfield caused several residents to evacuate their homes this afternoon as the fire destroyed two structures and three vehicles.

The Bloomfield, Farmington and San Juan County fire departments were dispatched to reports of a brush fire near San De Cristo Court around 4 p.m. The Bloomfield Police Department also responded to the scene.

No homes were destroyed in the fire, but two outbuildings and three vehicles were destroyed, according to Michele Truby-Tillen of the San Juan County Office of Emergency Management.

About 3 acres of land was burned, according to Truby-Tillen.

A reverse 911 call was made to residents along San De Cristo Court to evacuate and meet at Bloomfield High School.

Traffic along U.S. Highway 64 was shut down between North First Avenue and Mustang Lane due to the fire, according to Bloomfield Police Officer Jeremy Duran.
