Man pleads guilty to voluntary manslaughter charge

FARMINGTON — A Farmington man has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and firearm charges while admitting to shooting a victim in the head in a Huerfano residence in 2016.
Sage Yazzie, 21, pleaded guilty today in Albuquerque federal guilty to voluntary manslaughter and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence as part of a plea agreement, according to U.S. Department of Justice press release.
Yazzie was indicted on March 23, 2016, on a first-degree murder, and using and carrying a firearm in relation to a crime of violence charges.
He admitted to entering the Huerfano residence on Feb. 23, 2016, and shooting the unidentified victim in the head with a handgun during an argument, according to the press release.
The terms of plea agreement state Yazzie could be sentenced to 12 to 15 years in prison with a period of supervised release to be determined at a future sentencing hearing.
