Shiprock man sentenced to 10 years for shooting

FARMINGTON — A Shiprock man who pleaded guilty to shooting a woman in the forehead and knee in April was sentenced in federal court in Albuquerque today.
Norman Yazzie, 56, was sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by four years of supervised release, according to a U.S. Department of Justice press release.
Yazzie was arrested in May and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily harm, assault resulting in serious bodily injury and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence, according to the criminal complaint.
In November, he pleaded guilty to discharging a firearm during a crime of violence that happened on the Navajo Nation, and admitted he shot the victim in the forehead and knee with a rifle, the release states.
