FARMINGTON — A Kirtland man has been sentenced for his role in a March 2015 murder and assault in Fruitland.

Maynard Shirley, 38, was sentenced today in federal court in Albuquerque to three and a half years in prison followed by three years of supervised release, according to a U.S. Department of Justice press release.

Shirley and his brothers, Elijah Shirley, 32, and Michael Shirley, 32, were indicted on April 14, 2015, and charged with killing Brandon BlueEyes, 30, on March 21, 2015, and for assaulting BlueEyes' father, according to court documents.

The Justice Department release states that Maynard Shirley pleaded guilty on Dec. 13 to being an accessory after the fact to the offense of voluntary manslaughter.

Maynard Shirley admitted that he aided Elijah Shirley from March 21 to 23, 2015, despite knowing his brother committed voluntary manslaughter, the release states.

He also admitted to helping Elijah Shirley by transporting and securing housing for him and burning his vehicle.

On Jan. 24, Elijah Shirley was sentenced to more than 10 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release and Michael Shirley was sentenced to 5 years and three months in prison followed by three years of supervised release.
