Shiprock man sentenced in child sex abuse case

FARMINGTON — A Shiprock man was sentenced today to two and a half years in prison for a sex abuse conviction.

Henderson Shorty, 53, allegedly sexually abused a child younger than 12 years old on Jan. 24, 2013, in McKinley County, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice.

He was arrested in February and pleaded guilty on July 1.

Shorty admitted in his plea that he had sexual contact with a child on occasions from Jan. 1 to March 31, 2013, the press release states.

After his prison sentence, Shorty will have five years of supervised release, according to the press release. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.
