Aztec man charged in Wednesday night shooting
FARMINGTON — An Aztec man was arrested Wednesday night for allegedly shooting at another Aztec resident.
Jacob Nelson, 28, allegedly shot several rounds at another man shortly before 10 p.m. near the intersection of Fairgrounds Road and Mesa Verde Street, according to a press release from the Aztec Police Department.
Officers found several shell casings in the road, according to the press release.
The man Nelson allegedly shot at described him, and officers found Nelson at a house on Bunker Avenue, according to the press release. Nelson had live cartridges when officers contacted him. Officers found a firearm hidden in the room where they found Nelson, according to the press release.
The firearm and cartridges found at the Bunker Avenue house matched the caliber of spent shell casings found in the road near the intersection of Fairgrounds Road and Mesa Verde Street, the press release states.
Officers also found what they suspect is a pipe for smoking marijuana, according to the press release.
Nelson has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, tampering with evidence, negligent use of a deadly weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia.
