FARMINGTON — A 34-year-old Sanostee man has been arrested in a stabbing at The Dollar Tree in Farmington.

Ferlando Wadsworth was charged Wednesday in Farmington Magistrate Court with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and evidence tampering.

He has not retained legal representation, according to court records.

Farmington police were dispatched at 3:33 p.m. Tuesday to The Dollar Tree at 501 E. Broadway Ave. after receiving reports that a man was stabbed during an altercation inside the store, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Ethel Gruber, 60, met police at the scene with a makeshift bandage on his hand, the affidavit states. He told the officers he was stabbed in the hand by Wadsworth when he attempted to intervene in a fight.

Wadsworth and another man were located by police at Catholic Charities, 119 W. Broadway Ave., according to the affidavit. Wadsworth denied he was at The Dollar Tree, but an employee at the store said he fled the scene after the stabbing, the affidavit states.

A shirt and sunglasses police believe Wadsworth was wearing during the fight were located in a trash can in a nearby park, according to the affidavit. The suspect weapon was not located, the affidavit states.

Wadsworth was charged in September with battery upon a peace officer and resisting arrest, according to court records. A trial is scheduled in that case for Sept. 21.

Wadsworth's bond was set at $40,000, court records state.
