FARMINGTON — Battery charges have been dismissed against former jail employee Donovan Armenta.

Armenta, 19, of Bloomfield, was charged in Aztec Magistrate Court with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon on allegations he struck another man in the head with a baseball bat during a brawl on May 17 on Blanco Boulevard in Bloomfield, according to a press release from the San Juan County Sheriff's Office.

Armenta was a probationary employee at the San Juan County Detention Center at the time of the fight, the release states.

Armenta's attorney, Steve Murphy, said today that the state's witnesses against Armenta were uncooperative.

"The fact that the victims didn't cooperate didn't leave the DA an alternative," Murphy said.
