FARMINGTON — A motorist was arrested Monday night on suspicion she drove her vehicle into a street light pole on East Main Street while intoxicated.

Farmington police were dispatched at 8:47 p.m. Monday to 3451 E. Main St. after receiving reports a pick-up truck knocked down a light pole, which fell into the westbound lane and caused traffic delays, according to Farmington police spokeswoman Georgette Allen.

Josephine Shorty, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, according to Allen.

Shorty, 42, has not yet been formally charged, according to court records.

Rodney Romero, the acting electric utility director for the city of Farmington, said the crash caused several street lights in the area to go dark last night.

He said crews were working today to fix the lights.
