Man pepper sprayed during BB gun battery

FARMINGTON — Hershel Wilson was arrested Saturday on allegations he shot a man half a dozen times with a BB gun over unpaid debts.

Wilson, 33, was charged Tuesday in Farmington Magistrate Court with aggravated battery, great bodily harm, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of petty misdemeanor assault and resisting arrest.

Wilson has not retained legal representation, according to court records.

Farmington police officers were dispatched at 6:38 p.m. Saturday to the area of Oriole Avenue and Cardinal Street in Farmington in reference to the incident, according to arrest records.

Police detained Wilson at the scene and located the BB gun and a knife in the backyard of a residence, where Wilson allegedly attempted to ditch the items, records state.

Stewart Harvey, 31, told police Wilson came to his residence earlier and attempted to collect money from him. Harvey said he did not owe Wilson money, and Wilson responded by lunging at him with a knife, according to records.

Wilson then pulled out the BB gun, records state.

"What, are you going to shoot me with a BB gun?" Harvey said, before blasting Wilson with pepper spray, according to the records.

Wilson responded by shooting Harvey six times in the arms and chest with the BB gun, records state.

Wilson was booked at the detention center on a $50,000 bond.
