FARMINGTON – Police arrested three men early Tuesday on suspicion they burglarized vehicles on the north side of town.

Farmington police were dispatched at 4:18 a.m. Tuesday to the area of Wellington Street after receiving reports several suspects were stealing items from unlocked vehicles, according to a police press release.

An officer located the suspects' vehicle, a white Ford F-150 pickup truck, as it was leaving the area and requested assistance from additional units, the release states.

Police stopped the vehicle in the area and arrested three men — Robert Walker, 23, of Aztec; Martin Marez, 29, of Farmington; and Jacob Martinez, 21, of Farmington.

Officers located a .45-caliber handgun and a short-barrel shotgun in the vehicle, according to the release.

The men were charged with auto burglary, conspiracy to commit auto burglary and firearms offenses, the release states.

Farmington police Lt. Taft Tracy urged residents in a statement to avoid confrontation with criminal suspects.

"This incident is a good example of a citizen doing the right thing by gathering information and providing that to dispatchers so responding officers could apprehend the suspects," Tracy said.
