Man arrested in shooting south of Aztec
Affidavit: No one injured in shooting
AZTEC – Justin Krantz, 30, was charged Thursday with shooting at a motor vehicle and being a felon in possession of a firearm on allegations he fired several rounds at a pickup truck south of Aztec.
Detectives with the San Juan County Sheriff's Office were dispatched May 4 to a residence on County Road 2595 after receiving reports of a shooting, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
Krantz was found inside the home and detained, the affidavit states.
He told detectives he fired three or four rounds at a blue pickup truck outside his home. He said the vehicle was occupied by two men — Jeff Banowski and Timothy Kirk Morgan — who fled the scene.
A witness told detectives he believed an occupant of the truck returned fire. Krantz said that was not true, but the driver of the vehicle attempted to run him over during the shooting, according to the affidavit.
Deputies found several .22-caliber shell casings at the scene, the affidavit states.
The affidavit does not provide a motive for the shooting, and no injuries were reported to police.
Krantz has not retained legal representation, according to court records.
A preliminary examination hearing is set for Thursday.
