FBI looks for suspect in Sheep Springs assault

FARMINGTON — The FBI and the Navajo Nation Division of Public Safety are searching for a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman near Sheep Springs earlier this month.

The woman was assaulted early in the morning April 16 near a picnic area on Navajo Route 134, according to a press release the FBI issued today.

The suspect was described as a 5-foot-9-inch man in his late 30s with a medium build. He had the letter "F" tattooed in an old English font on his neck below his left ear, according to the press release.

The man had a short haircut, a goatee but no mustache and a scar on the left side of his chin. His eyebrows met above the nose, the release states.

The suspect was wearing a yellow beanie, brown leather jacket, white shirt, jeans and light brown work boots and had a black handgun, according to the press release.

He told the victim he was going to Sheep Springs when he left on foot at about 4 a.m. April 16, according to authorities.
