Kirtland woman charged with vehicular homicide
FARMINGTON — A 27-year-old Kirtland woman is accused of striking her husband with a car and killing him on Tuesday evening.
Farmington police arrested Lynell Kieyoomia after she allegedly hit her 21-year-old husband with a car in south Farmington, according to a press release from the Farmington Police Department.
Police spokeswoman Georgette Allen said the name of the victim has not been released as police try to contact his family.
Kieyoomia faces multiple charges, including vehicular homicide, two counts of child abuse, aggravated drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
Allen said officers were dispatched at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday to the intersection of Pinon Street and Orchard Avenue after it was reported there was an injured man who was lying in the middle of Pinon Street and not breathing.
The man was dead when officers arrived at the scene, according to the press release.
Allen said the man and Kieyoomia were arguing in the car as she was driving. The man opened the passenger door and exited the car while it was moving and was struck by the car, Allen said.
Two children, ages 8 and 1, were inside the car at the time of the incident, Allen said. Both were released to family members after officials with the state Children, Youth and Families Department were contacted, Allen said.
Allen said Kieyoomia was not at the scene when officers arrived. She later returned and asked officers about the victim's condition, according to the press release.
Allen said officers smelled alcohol on Kieyoomia’s breath while questioning her.
Police are still investigating the incident to determine how the car struck the victim, according to Allen.
Kieyoomia was being held at the San Juan County Adult Detention Center on a $34,400 bond.
