Woman killed after being struck by vehicle in Farmington

FARMINGTON — A woman was killed after a driver left the roadway at a high rate of speed, crashing into a structure and striking her shortly before 11 a.m. today, shutting down traffic in the vicinity of Airport and Apache streets.
The black Chevy Malibu heading eastbound damaged four buildings along the 700 block of West Apache before coming to a stop.
The woman was struck by the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, according to Farmington Police spokesperson Georgette Allen.
The male driver of the car was interviewed by Farmington Police Department detectives.
Police were dispatched around 10:54 a.m., according to Allen.
“Please avoid Apache between Airport & Auburn due to a traffic crash,” the Farmington Police Department announced on its Facebook page shortly after the incident.
The street reopened at 5:20 p.m.
Police had established a command center and diverted eastbound and westbound traffic in that area during the closure.
