Social media post of maimed cat sparks police inquest
FARMINGTON — Farmington police are investigating a case of animal cruelty after several residents forwarded graphic posts from a social media page that appear to show a cat being tortured and maimed.
Police spokesperson Georgette Allen said Tuesday that police are taking the matter very seriously.
The photos are linked to a social media account that also includes a photo of a young man wearing a hoodie making a hand sign with his pinky and index fingers extended.
“We recently received numerous reports of a graphic Facebook post that included images of a feline being severely abused,” Allen wrote on the department’s Facebook page. “The information was immediately sent to our Detective Division and is being investigated.”
Police ask that anyone with information about the incident call the Detective Tip Hotline at (505) 599-1068. Anonymous tips may also be made to San Juan County Crime Stoppers at (505) 334-TIPS.
The Daily Times received a copy of the posts from a concerned reader, but will not run the photos due to their graphic nature.
