FARMINGTON — A Shiprock man is accused of stabbing a Farmington man twice in his leg during an altercation at a local car wash.

Rodriguez Lee, 33, has been charged with a third-degree felony count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after allegedly stabbing Joshua Couillard, 33, twice Wednesday afternoon, according to Farmington Police Department spokesperson Georgette Allen.

Lee made his first appearance in Farmington Magistrate Court this morning and was being held on a $5,000 cash/surety bond at the San Juan County Adult Detention Center, according to court records.

Couillard was treated by officers and medics after staff members at the Anasazi Inn at 903 W. Main St. reported Couillard’s injuries at 3:55 p.m. Wednesday.

He was transported to the San Juan Regional Medical Center, where he received several stitches for stab wounds on his left thigh and behind his left knee cap, and was released, according to the arrest warrant affidavit.

Couillard told police he was talking with Lee at the Roadrunner Car Wash at 800 W. Broadway Ave. when Lee tried to punch him. Lee then pulled out a folding knife and tried to stab Couillard several times, according to court documents.

It wasn't until Coulillard fell on his back that Lee allegedly stabbed Coulillard twice in his left leg.

Lee left the scene, and Couillard then walked to the Anasazi Inn to get help.

A female witness told police she saw Lee on top of another man, fighting with him at the car wash. She added Lee tried to talk to her, but she was scared of him, according to court documents.

Police searching for Lee found him at the Farmington Indian Center, and he was taken into custody.

Lee's preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m . Wednesday in Farmington Magistrate Court.
