FARMINGTON — San Juan Regional Medical Center has been named one of three New Mexico organizations to receive the Roadrunner Recognition Award from Quality New Mexico this month.

The Farmington hospital was announced a winner at the 2018 Quality New Mexico Learning Summit and Performance Excellence Awards ceremony in Albuquerque on April 17 and 18, according to a SJRMC press release.

The award “reflects that San Juan Regional Medical Center demonstrates progress in building sound and systemic processes and attaining improved outcomes,” the release states.

The Roadrunner Award is the third award in a four-part performance excellence award series hosted by Quality New Mexico, a state-wide leadership, management and workforce learning organization, according to its website. The final award in the series is called the Zia Award.

San Juan Regional Medical Center is “constantly assessing opportunities to improve further to achieve the pinnacle of performance and earn the prestigious Zia award,” SJRMC President and CEO Jeff Bourgeois said in the release.

State invests in teacher recruiting

FARMINGTON — The New Mexico Public Education Department announced a $1 million investment in teacher recruitment for school districts throughout the state.

The investment by PED will fund recruitment-related activities such as signing bonuses, travel costs, website upgrades and advertising job posts, according to an April 30 press release. It is an effort to make teaching positions more competitive.

Farmington Municipal School Executive District Director of Human Resources Chris Pash said FMSD is requesting approximately $6,000 in the program, which will go toward reimbursing expenses for out-of-state recruitment efforts. Pash said the district has sent teams to Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota and Oklahoma to recruit teaching staff.
