Winery wins awards

FARMINGTON — Wines of the San Juan has been recognized by the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition this year.

The Blanco winery and vineyard received eight awards in the 18th annual competition that judges more than 3,000 wines, according to the competition website.

Wines of the San Juan won a Double Gold Medal for its 2014 cabernet sauvignon; three silver awards for its 2014 petite sirah, the 2014 red blend and a tribulation reserve; and two bronze awards for its 2011 serendipity merlot and a rosé of Pinot Meunier, according to a Facebook post.

The annual wine competition benefits Camp Good Days and Special Times, which is “dedicated to (bringing) smiles and memories to children with cancer,” according to the competition website.

Bloomfield names citizens of year

FARMINGTON — The Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce named Hank and Ayme Vigil as the 2018 citizens of the year during the chamber’s awards banquet on March 9 at the Sun Ray Park & Casino.

Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce Board President Janet Mackey said the Vigils were “both recognized for all their contributions to the citizens of Bloomfield” and in appreciation of their leadership and dedication to the town.
