FARMINGTON — Starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, Chick-fil-A will give away the chain's signature menu item for free to residents who visit the restaurant.

Located at 4910 E. Main St. in front of the Dick's Sporting Goods store, the Atlanta-based eatery plans to give away "nearly 2,000" of its original chicken sandwiches to residents on a first-come, first-served basis.

The promotional give-away is a kick-off event as the eatery counts down to its grand opening at 6 a.m. Thursday.

That's also when the first 100 eligible adults in line will be given one free Chik-fil-A meal — a chicken sandwich, medium waffle potato fries and a medium drink — once a week for a year, according to a company's website.

Registration for the yearlong food prize will start at 6 a.m. Wednesday. People who register that morning will be required to stay outside the restaurant for 24 hours, leaving only to use a bathroom.

"You cannot leave the property, sit in your car or switch places with someone else. ... Most participants bring tents and camp out," the contest rules state.

To be eligible, people must bring an ID, be 18 or older and live within certain zip codes in the area. For a list of eligible zip codes, go to chik-fil-a.com/locations/openings.
