FARMINGTON — A local couple who adhere to a "fabulicious" life philosophy will open their similarly themed ice cream parlor and candy store Friday.

A temporary sign for Simply Fabulicious is pictured June 8 at the store on East Main Street in Farmington.

Located at 531 E. Main St., on the corner of Main Street and Butler Avenue across from KFC, Simply Fabulicious — Treats, Sweets & More will hold a grand opening party at the store from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.

The first 100 customers will receive a free treat bag. The opening day party also includes face painting and free balloons between 4 and 6 p.m., and raffle drawings at 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Originally from California, Mark Houston, a retired oilfield worker, and Lori Houston, a former Hollywood producer and motivational speaker, said launching their first family business has been a "pleasurable challenge."

After dreaming up the business in May, Lori Houston said the last few months have consisted of "hitting the ground running." On her 55th birthday last month, Lori Houston said she and her husband met with food inspectors and the fire department at the store, and finished the day by heading to City Hall to pick up the couple's business license.

"It's always such a pleasure to be challenged, and it's how we deal with them that makes the difference," she said. "It just amazes me that we've done this. I just thank the Lord that he chose us. It has been a lot of hard work and a lot of fun."
