FARMINGTON — Navajo Lake Marina will host a National Marina Day celebration from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the marina, 1448 N.M. Highway 511.

The term marina was coined in 1928 to define a recreational boating facility, according to a press release from Navajo Lake Marina.

National Marina Day began in 2001 to raise awareness about what marinas offer.

The celebration at Navajo Lake Marina will include cleaning up trash along the shoreline from 9 to 11 a.m., free kayaking from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a fishing contest for children from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Tours of a houseboat will be offered at 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. There will also be live music from noon to 3 p.m. and free hotdogs from noon to 4 p.m.
