Chamber Chat: Innovations planned for Chamber's Young Professionals program

Audra Winters
Farmington Chamber of Commerce
On Aug. 6 there was a ribbon cutting at Apexnetwork Physical Therapy , 5600 Mickey Dr., Ste. F.

Now that school is back in session that means back to a regular routine and making new goals for the rest of the year. What are some of your goals for the rest of the year?
Here at the chamber we are working on a couple of new projects not only to support our member businesses, but our community.

For more than eight years the Farmington Young Professionals have been active group at the Chamber, but looking at what we could do better for our young professionals we are reorganizing the committee and working on ways to make it even better. There will be more leadership development and more ways to give back to the community.

If you or your business is a chamber member we are now waiving the fee for you to join, and if your business is not a member, the annual fee is $35.  If you are interested in learning more about the Farmington Young Professionals join them on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at North Allen from 5:30-7:30. The cost to attend is $15.

Retiring in Farmington? You bet!

We have also added a new group to our list of chamber committees. “Retire Northwest NM” is our newest committee. This group is focused on ways to get more retirees interested in moving to Northwest New Mexico.

The Redcoats dropped by RC-Warrior Defense Solutions Aug. 13 for a ribbon cutting. Contact that business at 505-595-0770.

Over the last 3-4 years we have noticed we have been mailing more and more of our relocation information to people who are looking at our area to retire. And why wouldn’t they; we have great weather, we are not too big or too small and we always have something going on.

Soon we will have a website and printed materials about retiring here. The committee is working with the state and their initiative, “Retire New Mexico.”  We are very excited about this initiative and all that can come from it.

Chile time Oct. 6 at Berg Park

Mark your calendars now for the Chamber’s Annual Chile in October. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Berg Park.  As you may know, this is the weekend to get your chili fix and to have lots of fun. We are still looking for some really good red chili, green chili and salsa cooks.

The Redcoats went out Aug. 3 for a ribbon cutting at the Water RC-Waste Water Treatment Plant at 1395 S. Lake St.

If you are interested, please give the Chamber a call we would love have you participate.  This is also the Chamber’s biggest community outreach of the year. We hope you will plan on attending.
