Seven area high school seniors were recognized as "Good Citizens" based on their qualities of dependability, leadership, service, and patriotism, the Desert Gold Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution announced.

The students were honored Sunday during an event at San Juan College “for their participation in high school organizations, community service, and high level of academic achievement,” the DAR said in a press release.

“This was an amazing group of young people with exemplary credentials to honor our country,” the group said. “We are proud of our high schools for preparing these students for their next level of education.”

Awardees were Sierra Sanders of Aztec High School, Trennery Turner of Piedra Vista High School, Jeffery Jaeger of Grace Baptist Academy, J’Kel Anderson of Navajo Preparatory School, Luke Stoltzfus of Farmington High School, Zady Gutierrez of Bloomfield High School and Cristian Brown of Kirtland Central High School.
