Engagement: Huera Martinez-Padilla and John Ellsaesser

Aspen “Huera” Martinez-Padilla  and John Ellsaesser will marry on Sept. 17 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Farmington.

Aspen "Huera" Martinez-Padilla, of Farmington, and John Ellsaesser, of Bloomfield, will marry on Sept. 17 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Farmington.

Huera’s parents are Steven Rivas and Jennifer Martinez, of Lubbock, Texas, and Michael A. Padilla Jr., of Woodward, Okla. She is the granddaughter of Paul V. Martinez Jr. and Dr. Louisa Lopez-Martinez, of Farmington.

Huera graduated from Bloomfield High School and is currently attending New Mexico Highlands University. She will attend American River College in California and pursue a degree to work as a nurse practitioner.

John is the son of Jimmy and Deedra Ellsaesser, of Bloomfield, and the grandson of Merle "Fizz" and JoAnne Ellsaesser, of Bloomfield, and Irene and David Montoya, of Lumberton.

He is enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as an Airman First Class. John is currently stationed at Beale Air Force in Beale, Calif., where he is an intelligence analyst.

The couple met in high school and have been together for more than three years. John was an avid wrestler and was coached by Huera's grandfather, Paul Martinez Jr. Huera, who was an avid soccer player, was a great supporter of wrestling. Together, the couple enjoys sports and the outdoors.

After asking Huera's parents and grandparents for her hand in marriage, John proposed at a welcome-back party at Kiwanis Park in Farmington. The party celebrated John’s completion of training in San Angelo, Texas.

He said he had a surprise for Huera and then got down on one kneeing, proposing to her in front of her family, friends and Father Timothy Farrell.
