Anniversary: Gloria and Richard Hanson
Gloria (Lowery) and Richard Hanson, of Alamogordo, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Monday.
The couple were Dexter High School sweethearts who met in seventh grade after Gloria moved from Artesia to Dexter. They married on Sept. 19, 1956, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Las Cruces.
The couple marked their milestone anniversary with an early celebration in Alamogordo with family that included Mexican food, Italian cream cake and Richard’s famous homemade pistachio ice cream.
The couple attended their high school class reunion over their anniversary weekend.
Before retirement, Richard worked for many years as a millwright at the Four Corners Power Plant. Gloria taught third grade in Silver City and Kirtland prior to her retirement.
The couple also owned and operated a campground near Royal Gorge in Colorado and owned Subway restaurants in Silver City, Deming and Lordsburg. They have since sold the restaurants and retired to Alamogordo.
The couple’s interests include hunting, sewing, reading, woodworking, history, genealogy, church activities, travel and cruising North and South Americas.
The couple’s children are Jennifer Hirth and her husband Britt of Midland, Texas, Lisa Lucero and her husband Barney, of Kirtland, and the late Janet Hanson.
They also have seven grandchildren, Chris Lucero and his wife Sarah, of Fort Worth, Texas, Jonell Lucero and her husband Aaron, of Farmington, Garrett Lucero and his wife Lexie, of Aurora, Colo., Briana Nguyen and her husband Vinh, of Westminster, Calif., Richard Hirth and his wife Meghan, of Charlotte, N.C., Ben Hirth and his wife Talia, of Benbrook, Texas; and Colton Hirth, of Midland, Texas.
The couple also has nine great-grandchildren, Addie, Nick and the late Grant Lucero, of Fort Worth, Dominic, Noah and Mitchell Lucero, of Farmington, Jillian and Shiloh Lucero, of Aurora, and Gavin and Declan Hirth, of Charlotte.
