Anniversary: Bonnie and James Lackey
Bonnie (McCloud) and James Lackey, of Aztec, will celebrate their 50th anniversary next month.
The couple will celebrate the milestone with a party at 2 p.m. Sept. 3 at First Baptist Church of Aztec, 700 Navajo Ave. Friends and family are welcome.
The couple grew up attending church and school together in the Cedarvale and Corona area. They married on Sept. 3, 1966, in Corona.
Bonnie moved away after high school to earn her cosmetology license. The couple married shortly after James graduated high school and moved to Albuquerque, where he graduated from the University of New Mexico.
The couple moved to Aztec in 1970 after James accepted a teaching position at the Aztec Municipal School District. He worked as a math teacher for the district for 30 years. He then spent 15 years installing TV and Internet systems. He retired last year, and now his full-time job is being a husband, father and grandfather.
Bonnie worked as cosmetologist until the couple had children, and then she started what she considers her most important job: being a mother and grandmother.
Together, the couple enjoys gardening and working in their yard. They are also active in their church and visit homebound church members.
The couple also enjoys traveling and has taken trips to many places in New Mexico and the Four Corners, as well as to Alaska, Niagara Falls and Maine.
The couple has three children, Rebekah Deane (Scott) of Aztec, Beth Lee (Will) of Aztec and James Lackey (Tanya) of Hobbs; and seven grandchildren, Cody and Jeffrey Deane, Grace and Levi Lee, and Seth, Falyn and Aubrey Lackey.
