Anniversary: Marie and Robert "Pat" McCarty

Marie and Robert "Pat" McCarty were married on June 15, 1946.

Marie and Robert "Pat" McCarty, of Farmington, will soon celebrate 70 years of marriage.

The couple met at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo. They married on June 15, 1946, at the home of Marie's parents on the Pine River Valley, north of Bayfield, Colo.

Robert served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Quadrant before he was honorably discharged. He attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo., and earned a master's degree in economics.

Marie received her master's degree in education from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Robert retired from El Paso Natural Gas Co. after 25 years. Marie taught for 20 years in the Farmington Municipal School District.

At the age of 93, Marie still plays golf, and, at 94, Robert watches the golfers from the couple’s back porch.

The couple have two children, Robert (Sharon) McCarty, of Farmington, and Jean (Gary) Stithem, of Centennial, Colo. They have three grandchildren, Bryan (Tesia) McCarty, of Farmington, Kim Stithem, of Morrison, Colo., and Kallan Stithem; and two great-grandchildren, Milena and Reed McCarty, of Farmington.
