Maurice and Patty Johnson, of Farmington, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on March 31.

The couple met when Maurice stopped to help Patty’s mother with car trouble. Patty, who was home from Texas Western College, was inside the car, and her mother introduced the two.

They were married March 31, 1956, at the First Baptist Church in Farmington, with Alford Richards officiating.

Maurice worked in the oil and gas industry for most of his career, retiring from the Bureau of Land Management. Patty worked for 33 years for the Farmington Municipal School District, including more than 29 years at Northeast Elementary School.

Together, the couple enjoys sports and being with their grandchildren.

They will celebrate their anniversary this summer with a family get-together.

The couple has two children, Justin Johnson, of Bloomfield, and Jana Hitchings, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren, Elyse Means, of Castle Rock, Colo., Jeremy Johnson, of Beeville, Texas, Alyssa Johnson, of Albuquerque, and Reese Hitchings, of New York City; and two great-grandchildren, Lucas Arrellin, of Albuquerque, and Ian Johnson, of Beeville, Texas, with one more due in July.
