Several San Juan County students were recently honored for their academic accomplishments.

Aztec High School graduate Jareau Vance Cordell recently graduated with his doctor of medicine degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis.
He has also been accepted to the University of New Mexico’s pediatric residency program.

Jareau has a bachelor’s degree in biology from Dixie State University in Saint George, Utah. He has also completed a two-year research fellowship at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, Md., in the field of allergy and immunology.

Jareau is the son of Toby and Maryann Cordell, formerly of Aztec, and the grandson of Zeb and Margie Cordell and the late Earl and Susie Gammon, also of Aztec.

In other collegiate news, Steven Jaquez, of Farmington, was recently named to the Dean’s List with high honors at Aurora University in Aurora, Ill., for the spring semester.

Students named to the Dean’s List with high honors have earned a 4.0 GPA that semester.
