FARMINGTON — Two special education teachers in the Farmington Municipal School District recently received awards for their efforts in the classroom.

Ramona Briones-Mosely, from McKinley Elementary School, and Mally Edmiston, from Mesa Verde Elementary School, were selected as finalists for this year's Teacher of Excellence award from the Specialized Program Individualizing Reading Excellence, or SPIRE, according to a press release from education company EPS Literacy and Intervention.

The awards honor teachers who go above and beyond to improve the reading and comprehension skills of their students in the SPIRE reading intervention program.

According to the press release, Briones-Mosely was recognized for her creative and engaging ways of incorporating SPIRE in her classroom to increase reading proficiency.

Edmiston has been training district employees on SPIRE best practices, in addition to implementing the program in his classroom for the last five years.
