FARMINGTON — Sixth-grade students from Hermosa Middle School released 100 triploid rainbow trout on May 3 into the San Juan River as part of a class project.
About 170 students traveled to the Cottonwood Campground at Navajo Dam to release the trout and learn about their habitat.
The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish and the San Juan Fly Fishing Federation sponsored the classroom activity.
Students also learned the basics of fly-fishing from volunteers with the federation.
