Barbara Charles receives national recognition

FARMINGTON — A San Juan Regional Medical Center employee has been recognized for her work educating people about heart attacks.

Barbara Charles, coordinator of the San Juan Regional Medical Center's chest pain center and director of the cardiology service line, was recognized as the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care's 2015 Early Heart Attack Care Person of the Year.

Barbara Charles, coordinator of the hospital's chest pain center and director of the cardiology service line, was recognized as the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care's 2015 Early Heart Attack Care Person of the Year.

She was one of two recipients in the country, according to a press release from the medical center.

Her work for the Deputy Heart Attack Program has included spreading the Mr. Juan Hart ads around the community. Under her leadership, the chest pain center achieved accreditation for Primary Percutaneos Coronary Intervention. The medical center is one of four hospitals in New Mexico with that accreditation, according to the press release.

Charles will be presented with the award on May 26 during the SCPC's 19th Congress in Miami, Fla.
