FARMINGTON — Four San Juan County residents are among the recipients of the New Mexico School Boards Association’s 2016 Excellence in Student Achievement Awards.

The awards are presented to people who have helped improve student achievement in their local schools districts, according to a press release the association issued earlier this month.

Members of local school boards select worthy nominees. This year, 65 school boards throughout the state participated.

In Aztec, volunteer Kaelan Horn and Aztec High School English teacher Irene Barry received the award.

Bloomfield High School science teacher Hank Starr and Frank Stimac, a former assistant superintendent  for the Farmington Municipal School District, were also honored with the award.
