FARMINGTON — Earlier this year, Morgan Kennedy, of Farmington, won the title of Miss Northern New Mexico.

Now, the senior at the University of New Mexico is preparing to compete for Miss New Mexico in June.

The Miss Northern New Mexico competition took place Feb. 27 in Albuquerque.  In addition to winning the title, Kennedy also received a $250 scholarship.

“I am a local titleholder within the Miss America System, where I act as an advocate for education, health (and) community service as well as being a good steward of respect and strength,” the Piedra Vista High School graduate said in an email. “I make appearances in the community. I represent to raise awareness for good causes as well as for the Miss America Organization.”

Kennedy, 21, will showcase her personal platform, “Moderation: Finding Life’s Healthy Balance,” at the Miss New Mexico state pageant in Portales from June 13 to 18.

The winner will be decided on June 18.

If she wins the state competition, Kennedy said the next three months would consist of preparing for the Miss American competition.
