Students compete in Spanish Spelling Bee

FARMINGTON — Thirty students from fourth through eighth grades competed last month in the Farmington Municipal School's District Spanish Spelling Bee.

The event took place Feb. 2 at Piedra Vista High School.

In addition to spelling words, students had to correctly use accents and tildes.

Bluffview Elementary School fifth grader Ximena Ortiz won first place and will compete in New Mexico Association for Bilingual Education’s State Spanish Spelling Bee on April 16 at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque.

Adrian Gomez Ferraez finished in second place, and Jesus Martinez was third. Both students are in sixth grade at Hermosa Middle School.
