One of our readers noticed the item below in our "Local History" segment and called to say she had photos of a Cpl. Johnny George that she received from her father who also fought in World War II. The photos show George in Sitka, Alaska, in 1943, and in Honolulu, Hawaii, "headed for Guam" in 1945. If a reader is related to George and would like to claim the original photographs please call Jennifer Knight at 505-564-4625.

PFC. Johnny George is "Somewhere out here"

Pfc. Johnny George sends a V-mail letter to the T-H from "Somewhere out Here," which is likely to be the South Pacific.

"I am doing fine," he says.

"I want to say hello to the boys I used to know. I'll see you soon, Charlie Y. Begay, some of you fellows, too. Say Charlie, do you remember when we were in school at Shiprock the girl we used to call Movie Star? She is in the Woman Marines now.
