FARMINGTON — An Aztec woman won a second-place award in the National Federation of Press Women's communications contest.

Margaret Cheasebro won for her piece "Meditating Among Trees," in the category of editorial/opinion, which includes magazine, newsletter and non-newspaper print publications.

New Mexico earned a total of 43 wins in the contest, according to a press release from the federation.

Cheasebro qualified for the national competition with a first-place award in New Mexico Press Women's annual communications contest.

At the state conference in April, her articles earned three first-place wins; three second-place wins; one honorable mention and a "Communicator of Excellence Award" for individual achievement.

National awards will be presented at the federation's convention in September in Anchorage, Alaska.
