FARMINGTON — The San Juan College Fine Arts Committee will present its “Fall for the Arts” fundraiser at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 in the newly completed expansion at Artifacts Gallery, 302 E. Main St.

The event is designed to raise money for art education, according to an SJC press release. The Fine Arts Committee encourages and supports cultural activities at the college and throughout the community it serves.

Among other activities, the community provides funds for scholarships to SJC students seeking art-related degrees and provides small grants to arts-related departments at the college. It also contributes to the SJC permanent collection by purchasing art at the Student Show, and supports student workshops and performances.

The committee meets monthly during the school year, and membership is open to any San Juan County citizen.

Entertainment at the fundraiser will include a silent auction featuring the work of such well-known local artists as Rod Hubble, Kathy Walling and Michael Bulloch, with almost 100 items up for bid. There also will be a “Trim Your Table” contest for those attending the event, with an award being presented for the best alla prima entry. A raffle will be held with such prizes as a free painting class, Silhouette Series season tickets and other items being featured. Music and light appetizers are included in the cost of admission, and beverages will be available from Wines of the San Juan.

Tickets are $25 per couple and may be purchased from any committee member or at the door.
