FARMINGTON — Former Navajo Nation Council Delegate Davis Filfred will be returning to the tribal council to represent five chapters in the Northern Agency.

Filfred was vying for the council seat against Steven S. Benally to represent the Aneth, Mexican Water, Red Mesa, Teec Nos Pos and Tolikan chapters.

A previous story listed Benally as finishing first, but the results were based on four chapter precincts reporting to the Navajo Election Administration on Tuesday night.

An updated report released on Wednesday by the election office shows Filfred narrowly topping Benally.

Filfred received 1,458 votes, while Benally finished with 1,415 votes.

The unofficial results from Wednesday also show that in two uncontested races, Watona Kellywood received 9,015 votes for the Navajo Board of Election Supervisors, and Bernadette Todacheene received 9,642 votes for the Navajo Board of Education.
